How to Use Celebrity and News Events To Be Found In The Search Engines
Let’s pretend you are in Hollywood; it’s Oscar time, and you are standing in the crowd watching the celebrities walk the red carpet. Now pretend that you can quietly sneak on the red carpet and walk a couple of steps behind Nicole Kidman or Clint Eastwood…acting as if you belong there…people are wondering who you are… camera flashes going off…you and Nicole or you and Clint in the same photo the next day in the papers and online.
Attaching yourself to a celebrity got you noticed. You were able to piggyback on their celebrity.
Now, I want to show you how you can use this same concept online to be found when people search for a celebrity or a hot news story.
Years ago, I flew Delta up to Atlanta. I picked up the Delta Sky magazine and skimmed through it during the trip. Inside was an interview with the pop singer and Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift. One of the questions they asked Taylor was about her current personal fears. Her answer…
“I am honestly scared of anything happening to my family or friends. I also fear being alone in a dark parking lot and walking to my car.”
Her answer is very relevant to our products. A perfect tie-in!
OK, how can you use her celebrity and comments to help you get noticed?
You write an article or blog post about how even Taylor Swift fears a dark parking lot. The title would contain her name and a keyword such as stun gun, personal alarm, or pepper spray—something relevant to your story and her comments.
When someone searches for Taylor Swift, your article or blog post will have a good chance of being found in the search engines. And remember, thousands of people search for celebrities and hot news stories.
But, you want to use celebrities and hot news stories and ride their coattails. Not all celebrities or news stories will be as obvious or easy to use as Taylor Swift’s comments. But there is enough going on out there that you will be able to find many ways to utilize celebrities in your marketing. And remember to use the celebrity’s name or the news event in the title and your chosen keyword phrase.
